About services to Youth

The Links, Incorporated created its first program facet, Services to Youth (STY), to equip black youth to use their intellect and spirit of achievement to become successful and productive citizens.  The primary goal is to close the achievement gap from pre-K through college and to prepare youth for the global workforce as healthy citizens.  In addition, STY focuses on mentoring, expanding and supporting STEM education and historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) for ensured sustainability.

The Charlotte (NC) Chapter provides STEM programming to youth across the City of Charlotte and provides financial support and programming to HBCUs in the area.

Partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Carolinas (BBBS)

Through its partnership with BBBS, the chapter’s group mentoring program   “Linking Literacy and Friendship” provides opportunities for members to support the healthy development of girls ages 8 – 12.  The literacy-based educational and self-empowerment program works to improve reading proficiency, social and emotional health, coping skills and overall academic performance by providing opportunities and experiences focused on the arts, personal health and safety, cultural awareness and expression, self-confidence building and leadership development.

By working with the staff and mentors of BBBS, we believe building their self-esteem and confidence allows us to provide a strong foundation for their ability to navigate through challenging situations using clear decision-making tools and being positively engaged as girls, students and citizens of the community.

Historically Black Colleges and Universities Awareness

The Charlotte (NC) Chapter celebrates the rich history and importance of HBCUs.  Many Chapter members and our family members are proud graduates of HBCUs.  North Carolina is proud to be home to 12 HBCUs and the Chapter has mentored, educated and financially supported the students of Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC.
